Small bathroom renovations can be quite a challenge. You don’t want to compromise on style, but you also don’t want to wind up with a space that feels cramped and crowded. It takes a smart renovation team to transform a smaller bathroom into an area that is both functional and spacious.

We’ve been in the business for over 20 years and haven’t met a bathroom we couldn’t modify into a bigger zone. There are many clever design ideas you can employ to make your bathroom appear larger.

Here are our small bathroom renovation tips that will help create the illusion of space

The layout is important

A space-savvy layout plays a big role in achieving a luxe look in a small bathroom design. You can try some clever tricks like a wall-mounted toilet if you have space in the walls to build-in a toilet tank. You could install a glass panel instead of a shower curtain. They are not just a modern trend, but they also really add much-needed space and a clean glass divider between the shower and the rest of your bathroom presents a polished bathroom design. And you could consider switching from an in-swinging entry door to a pocket door. A pocket door is a sliding door that, when fully open, disappears into a compartment in the adjacent wall.

Stock up on storage

Adding storage in an intelligent way to your small bathroom is key to maximising space. This will allow you to place all the essentials in the area without creating clutter or taking up precious room on top of benches. We specialise in finding creative ways of adding storage whilst keeping a sleek and modern design. One of our favourite storage ideas is installing mirrored cabinets. Not only are they a great space saver, but they look stunning and the extra storage allows for clear benchtops and surfaces.

Scrap The Bath.

A shower unit by itself is the most compact option for a smaller bathroom, as no matter what you do, a bath will simply take up more space than a shower. A bath is nice, of course, but how often do you use it? Scrapping the bath will not only make your bathroom look bigger, but the renovation will be cheaper as you will not need to pay for a separate screen and drain. You’ll also save water spillage without a bath and the area will be easier to clean.

Go Sleek And Slim.

Regular-sized sinks and toilet bowls could easily make your bathroom look and feel cramped. You can avoid this by opting for more compact versions, giving you more room for storage and movement. Going too small will naturally feel uncomfortable, so go to the so-called “Goldilocks zone” where you find the middle ground between something big enough to accommodate you and small enough so as not to take up too much space.

Create An Illusion Of Space.

When you can’t physically add more space to your bathroom, the least you can do is to create an illusion of it. You’ve probably heard about how placing mirrors in small rooms can make it look bigger. That also applies to bathrooms, so strategically placed mirrors can open the area. Also, great lighting helps to create the illusion of space. Try recessed LED strip lighting and a pair of crystal wall sconces on each side of the vanity mirror.
